Accent Modification Consultant
My name is Kristopher Wan. I work full-time as a speech language pathologist in an acute care hospital. In addition to providing patient care addressing speech impairments and swallowing difficulties, I have an interest in accent modification (which is not a speech impairment), focusing on improving speech intelligibility, facilitating communicative success and expediting professional and personal growth.
LUCID ACCENT CONSULTING
Accents reveal the unique features and experience of a person. However, sometimes people may have difficulty communicating because of their accent. These difficulties may negatively affect job performance, educational advancement, and everyday life activities. Accent modification services can facilitate your communicative success.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAN I CHANGE MY ACCENT?
Yes. It is not easy but with hard work, practice and the help of a qualified speech-language pathologist (SLP), you can learn how to change your speech pronunciation. Typically, people who receive these types of services include the following:
Non-native English speakers
Speakers who want to reduce a regional accent
Business and medical professionals who want to improve their communication skills because of a foreign or regional accent
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS SERVICE?
You will first receive a thorough evaluation of your individual speech pattern. This will include:
Sound pronunciation (consonants and vowels)
Stress, rhythm, and intonation of speech
Words, sentences, paragraph and conversation samples
Once collected and analyzed, a customized training program will be designed to modify your accent and improve your overall communication. A set of realistic and individual-specific goals based on your personal needs will be developed. Training sessions will be individual. The number of sessions will depend on the level of accentedness.
The goal is to help the individual speak effectively so that speech is easily understood.
Accent elimination is not the intention of this training. The individual is actually learning a Canadian English accent.
